Hoo Junction, a mass of over 30 sidings, lies on the North Kent line between Gravesend and Higham. The yard can be viewed from one of two places. The first vantage point is the locked level crossing which is located at the west end of the yard. The other viewing alternative is an overgrown public footpath which follows the eastern perimeter of the yard.

To reach the level crossing: take the A226 east from Gravesend towards Higham, and in the village of Shorne turn left on the minor road to Lower Shorne. Continue through the hamlet of Lower Shorne and shortly after a sharp left-hand (that has a road going off to the right), turn right into Queens Farm Road. Continue along this road until you reach the locked level crossing gates and park. Just before the gates on the right-hand side is a drive which leads into the yard. There doesn’t seem to be a problem with parking on this driveway, before the security barrier which controls access to the yard, and better views of the yard can be had from here than at the level crossing. The shunter(s) can be seen from this vantage point, but patience may be required.

Alternatively, the yard can be seen from trains between Gravesend and Higham. The main part of the yard is on your right going towards Higham, but the shunter(s) can be on either side.
