Tyseley depot and railway museum are about 3 miles south-east of Birmingham city centre, on the A41 Warwick Road.

Leave the M42 at junction 6 and follow the A45 towards Birmingham. After 5.5 miles turn left at the traffic lights into Kings Road, and after 0.7 miles turn right onto the B4146 Wharfedale Road. This road passes over the railway by Tyseley station. You are unable to park by the station, so find somewhere else to park and walk back to the bridge to view the railway; the active shunter may be visible from here in the vicinity of the DMU & carriage sidings.

To view the depot and to reach the museum, take the first right after the bridge on Wharfedale Road into Tyseley Hill Road and right at the T-junction onto the A41 Warwick Road. The car-park for the museum is sign-posted off to the right after about 100 yards. The depot can be viewed from here, as can some of the DMU & carriage sidings.

Entrance to the museum, now known as the Tyseley Locomotive Works & Visitor Centre (and formerly known as the Birmingham Railway Museum) is at weekends only, although some stock (though usually not the shunters) can be seen from the car-park. Unfortunately, the weekend - especially Sunday - is not a good time to attempt to see the active shunter, as it could be hidden behind stabled units.

For details for the railway museum, follow the link below.
